Dr Nancy Friessen grew up in a small town in Ontario. She has dedicated her career to providing thorough eyecare services to patients in the Okanagan since relocating and making this home after graduation in 2017.
Dr Friessen’s journey to becoming an optometrist began when she completed her Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education in 2012 and 2013 at the University of Windsor. After this, she went on to pursue her Doctor of Optometry with Honours at the University of Waterloo and was active in student organizations. During her time in Waterloo, she served as the social events co-ordinator and later as secretary for the Optometry Student Society. She also had the opportunity to provide eyecare on a mission trip to Romania in 2015.
After graduation, Dr Friessen began practicing as an optometrist in the Okanagan providing a wide range of eyecare services including full eye examinations, ocular disease management (glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataract, etc.), LASIK and PRK co-management, contact lens fitting, and myopia management. Having an education degree, Dr Friessen has a particular interest in how vision and learning interact and has taken post-graduate courses through the Optometric Extension Program Foundation to further her knowledge in this area.
Dr Friessen is looking forward to joining Summerland Optometry and serving the local community. When not busy asking patients ‘which is clearer, 1 or 2?’, Dr Friessen enjoys exploring all the Okanagan has to offer. She is an avid road biker, leisurely snowboarder and paddleboarder and loves a good hike.
